The Opposition to Amendments 60 and 61 and Proposition 101

The Multi-Cultural Lounge (Room 261)
Tivoli Student Union, Auraria Campus, 900 Auraria Parkway in Denver
Thursday, September 23rd from 6-8 p.m.

Join Senator Chris Romer, Representative Mark Ferrandino, former Colorado budget director Henry Sobanet, and Great Education Colorado Executive Director Liane Morrison for a Town Hall discussion on the opposition to Amendments 60 and 61 and Proposition 101.

This event is an excellent opportunity for voters to educate themselves about these extremely dangerous ballot measures and to empower themselves to take action and to help defeat the measures in the general election.  The event is free and open to the public.

  • Senator Chris Romer (D-Denver, Senate District 32) is a staunch opponent of Amendments 60 and 61 and Proposition 101, and he is working throughout the fall to educate voters about the measures’ dangerous effects. Sen. Romer has 23 years of experience as a municipal finance consultant and has served on the boards of several local schools.  His background in business and education makes him especially well-suited to address the damage passing these initiatives would cause.
  • Representative Mark Ferrandino (D-Denver, House District 2) is a member of the General Assembly’s Joint Budget Committee, and he has been a champion for fiscal reform throughout his three years in the legislature. Rep. Ferrandino served as a Senior Budget Analyst for the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, a Program Analyst for the United States Department of Justice, and as a Policy Analyst for the White House Office of Management and Budget.
  • Henry Sobanet served as the Director of the Office of State Planning and Budgeting under Governor Bill Owens. He was the lead negotiator in resolving Colorado’s budget shortfall in 2005, leading to Referendum C passing that year. He worked as an economist at the nonpartisan Colorado Legislative Council, and he is currently the President of Colorado Strategies, consulting on economics, Colorado budget issues, legislative affairs, and strategic management.
  • Liane Morrison is the Executive Director of Great Education Colorado, a statewide, nonpartisan, grassroots organization dedicated to improving education in Colorado.  Her recent work includes developing new markets for environmental technology in developing economies.  As an international economist at the Department of Treasury, Liane served as the country officer for Latin American and Eastern European countries.

Additional details will be posted as they become available.
